(written end of January 2022)
That was BRUTAL.
I’ve committed to putting a cookie in the cookie jar 1x per month in 2022.
If you don’t understand the cookie jar metaphor, you should read “Can’t Hurt Me” by David Goggins.
Earlier in the week, my plan was to run a marathon on a treadmill at my friend’s studio.
I would have needed to wait until the afternoon to use her treadmill, but I like getting my suffering over as early in the day as possible.
So, two days ago I decided to run outside, regardless of the weather.
Yesterday the weather app said 25 degrees for my 6 am start time this morning.
When I woke up this morning, I heard our wind chimes and I knew I was in trouble.
I checked the weather app and it showed a real feel of 6 degrees and lots of wind.
My mind screamed, “please don’t do this to me.”
I said back, “quiet down, that’s not how we operate.”
So, I did what any sane person would do … I bundled up and turned on YouTube and watched a 5 minute video to get in the right mindset.
Search YouTube for “who’s gonna carry the boats”.
I listened and I decided – “I’m going to carry the f*****g boat.”
When I opened the front door, the wind and cold smacked me, but that didn’t matter, the decision was made.
26.2 was going to happen.
My hands went numb, I had to change clothes, my face froze, but underneath all that, my soul was on fire.
Mission accomplished, the cookie went into the cookie jar where it belongs.
Life isn’t always going to lay out the red carpet for you, but that shouldn’t stop you from doing what you set out to do.
I’ll see you on the battlefield.
